Mariposa Folk Festival

Mariposa Folk Festival has successfully become a water bottle free event. There are no plastic water bottles sold on site during the entire duration of the festival. This initiative alone will save thousands of bottles from ending up as waste. Instead of plastic water bottles all festival-goers are encouraged to bring their own reusable bottles to fill up all weekend at the free water station. If anyone forgets a water bottle, there are also reusable water bottles for sale that are also a successful promotional tool for the festival.

Mariposa Folk Festival has made huge efforts to divert as much waste from the landfill as possible. All vendors are required to use fully compostable materials for serving their food and beverages, including plates, straws and cups. There are waste stations easily accessible all over the festival grounds, and clear signage indicates what products should be going in what bin. Volunteers assist in this effort by being at the waste stations and ensuring that every item is sorted correctly. Majority of what is left behind at Mariposa will end up being recycled or composted instead of going to the landfill which is a wonderful success story.
